To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan, and not quite enough time. ~Leonard Bernstein

I know you don’t have enough time, but do you have a social media plan? Your social media strategy plan does not have to be complicated! Four simple steps:

1 – Make a clear and tangible goal for your strategy
Without a clear goal, nothing will get done. Why? Because you don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish. Set a goal that will stretch you, but make sure it’s something that you know you can achieve.

Do you want three new clients this month? 10,000 followers on Facebook by the end of the year? Enroll 20 people in your next conference? Figure out what you want to accomplish and when you want it.

2 – Focus on one social media network to start
There are so many choices out there! Which one do you choose – Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn or ???

Start with just one. (Facebook is still the go to platform, by far.) It’s easier and more effective to start with one platform and build up from there. Get one down and then you can launch a second next year. Why would you want to do this?

  • More effective. Focus! Master one network instead of juggling several. You’ll drop the ball.
  • You can build a following and they will follow you to your next platform!
  • Pick the social media platform that is most fun, natural for you. You will enjoy your work!
  • You will be more consistent with one focus at this point. It’s better to post on Facebook consistently than to hop from one platform to another.

3 – Add Value to Others
This is a means to connect your audience to valuable content. Show them why they need you.

4 – Get familiar with Analytics
Is your strategy working? Are your posts effective? Have you reached your goals from step 1? Take a moment regularly to stop and look at the results. Change your content if needed, evaluate what works.
